Dragon's Keep is a semi-lit/literate roleplay held on Discord.
It takes inspiration from fantasy and is influenced by mythology from around the world as well as our own minds.
Our current story takes place in Azielan, an eastern-influenced continent.
Characters in the roleplay are in a guild with the aim of protecting and helping others.
* Please note that this forum is only meant to be supplemental to the Discord server.
Main events and roleplay will still take place on the server. This is only here to help with further character interaction and development for those who may care for such a thing.
It can be quite a trial to have certain interactions on a server without them getting lost in the fray due to the time concerns. This forum was made as a way to work around that! 😊
--/--/2019 ✨ The Azielan update is here! ✨ Like the new design? The forums recieved a big makeover! There is also a new "Roleplay" category featuring both Nysa and Azielan. With a heavy sigh of defeat, Nikoli slouched back against the tree, watching both deer and MAN disappear into the darkness of the woods. It was only the two of them now, Alister and Nikoli and the wind that provided the only other sound. Thanks to cloud cover and the fact that it was the dead of night, they were left in the pitch black darkness, in the middle of nowhere practically. Turning his gaze back to his younger compatriot, Nikoli raised his brow and the canteen. "Wanna get drunk?" he asked.

Alistar quickly noticed night had peered from appearing no where. Alistar had been disqualified along with Niko and was embarrassed. The two men could at least bond on a cold night like this. Alistar didn't know why but there was a familiarity to this mans atmosphere.... hmmm. Alistar raised his brows. "Hey you're new to the keep right?" Alistar asked. The young man looked at Niko curiously. "There is a lot of humans in the guild....to my surprise not all of you are bad like I used to think." Alistar adjusted his bunny hood. "You look like you've had your share of adventures for a human." Alistar continued walking hearing the snow crunch with each step he took. Alistar didn't know why but he actually felt at peace... he and this man had engaged in something childish and now had to act like adults even though right now for some reason he felt like they were both kids. "My Name is Alistar." he introduced himself.

Nikoli took another sip from his canteen, watching Alister closely. He was silent as the halfling went on, studying his gait and mannerism. Had he met this kid before? It really felt like he was in the presence of an old friend. "There's always a bad to everything," Nikoli replied. "Humans can be pretty scummy, but so can anyone else." He really wasn't sure about that though. Nikoli always imagined elves to be all perfect beings but...lance proved that otherwise. He tilted his head to the side, narrowing his eyes at Alister. "It's a tough place out there in Fyr," Nikoli said. "You look like you've seen it too." With Alister introducing himself, Nikoli nodded and replied, "Nikoli." He set his drink down and pulled out a pipe and a small matchbox. As he began to light it, Nikoli directed a question at Alister: "What were you up to before your dragon, kid?"
Alistar looked up at the starry sky listening but also letting his mind wander to the past. That really was a good question.... He himself could barely remember those days...He remembered them oh so vaguely. Alistar let out a light laugh. "Oh you've met that guy too?" then he railed back to the question Niko had originally asked. " Were both from Fyr so I know you are aware of the social division amongst our kind." he paused. "Hm... before my dragon there was only sadness. I won't give you each chapter of my past but to summarize it in few words there was ' Loneliness, Struggle, and Strife'." Alistar saw a source of light up ahead and some steam go up above some tall trees. they were approaching a cabin or small village near the festivals area. "What about your life before the keep? I'll tell you more of the stuff I've seen eventually if you tell me one or two secrets yourself." The handling bargained. It began to snow again lightly this coldness reminded alistar of his past...and what he wouldn't give to go back and comfort his younger self.

Nikoli raised his brow as Alister gave a brief summary, but there was very little surprise, if there was any there to begin with. He exhaled a stream of smoke, nodding again. "I know that," he said.
With that bargain, now Nikoli was curious. Every persons story was the same, but Alister's seemed different to Nikoli. Not fashionably and terribly unique, but something that the man wanted to hear for himself. Nikoli could relay parts of his life, how hard could it be?
Letting out an audible sigh, Nikoli looked up to the sky. "Well, I had a hit and run kind of life when I was your age. Then I joined in the war effort... Passed on the opportunity to become some special guard to the king." He took a long pause. "Never really stuck in one place, never carried one name for long." A grin suddenly spread across Nikoli's face as he looked to Alister. "That's enough about me, kid, you gotta spill something as payback."
alistar listened to this mans brief summary as well. Alistar now in the moment of a bit of aweness had regretted striking the sudden bargain the Nikolai had so easily fulfilled. Alistar took a deep breath. He was ashamed of his past and had never told anyone other than his dragon of the things he had come from. Alistar looked at Niko and his expression was blank. "Alright." its was like time had froze and the woods had grown silent. " I wasn't exactly a good kid in my past... People took advantage of my vulnerability as a child and I got involved in some twisted perversions of what I thought peace should look like...but really it was just revenge I wanted more than anything. I was left alone. There was someone and then there was no one." Alistar crossed his arms. He couldn't believe that he was saying this aloud. he'd never spoken of this not even to himself. "My mother died when I was young....My father was an Elite in Fyr and left me to fend for myself at a young age. He couldn't have a Halfling son even though my mother had given up so much for him. Eventually I ran off and found myself in the hands of a tribe that did underground jobs no one should speak of. I suppose you could say I was young and afraid of solitude and this was my only way to become strong at the time. They Taught me all I know today about my magic, how to fight, how to survive.... What they saw and wanted wasn't right though so I ran away. My whole life I've only ever known my Mothers sword... Im surprised my own dragon can just over look my past and accept me when no one else did." Alistar turned back and smiled. "There's a girl who's trying to get me to open up...I manage to trick her into talking about herself each time but that trick won't work on you now will it? Nikolai." Alistar turned away and Continued walking they were now in the village. Alistar had told Niko things he had never even told himself there was something bittersweet in the air Alistar couldn't fathom.

Nikoli was not expecting so much to come from the guy all at once. There probably was so much more to it but Alister explained a good bulk of it. Nikoli closed his eyes briefly, taking in what he heard. It sounded like him, not event by event, but at least the stirring tension and the struggle for survival amongst people who could easily to their back on you.
"It's not about your past, Alister," Nikoli replied. "It's about who you are now. The past doesn't write your path for you or who you are, that's your job." He glanced to Alister. "And if I'm going to be honest, you're doing a pretty good job, kid."
At the mention of a girl, Nikoli cockadoodledooed an eyebrow. "You make her talk about herself? You know that's the exact opposite of what you do with women; they hate it when men make them talk about themselves. Trust me."
Now in the village, Nikoli looked to Alister's rapier. in the nearby torchlight. "...Can I see your sword?"

The topic had settled down now with the door Alistar had opened to a lighter subject. He handed the man his sword. He didn't show the sword off to show it off unless he was in battle. No one had asked to seen it or hold it before. The sword had manifested itself to be a part of Alistar or so it actually now felt like a part of him. handing it over so easily was out of nature but for some reason Alistar had no walls with this man. Alistar regained his thoughts and responded to their conversation. "Women don't like talking about themselves?" he asked. "I suppose it depends on the person really. I just get her talking because I don't like talking. Im used to Listening and I think I've grown fond of listening to her rambles." Alistar wondered why it was Niko had asked to examine the Rapier.
Post by Noa | Nikoli on Aug 23, 2018 17:45:17 GMT -6
As Alister went on, Nikoli turned the weapon in his hand, looking at it from different angles. It was light, very light, a kid could wield this thing, that is if it wasn't heavily imbued with magic. Nikoli had to make a big assumption on that, he had never actually seen a magical weapon for himself. The enirety of the weapon, though, really came as nostalgic to him.
He chuckled lightly, glancing at Alister. "Like listening to her ramble?" Nikoli said. "That's a good sign, especially in the long term." He winked at Alister before continuing to inspect the rapier.
Holding it up into the light, he went on. "Some craftsmanship... You said it belonged to your mother?" Nikoli handed it back to him and crossed his arms. "You gave up quite a bit of yourself back there; it's my turn to give my two cents. If you say you're such a good listener, I might as well." Gazing off to some of the cabins, he continued, "I was like you when I was growing up, my real mother abandoned me, but only because her relationship with my father wasn't supposed to happen. The woman I called mother was hardly a mother at all too me. Can't blame her though, the mere sight of me was a reminder of the sins of my father. My siblings weren't so brutal, but they couldn't see me as anything but a stranger."
Nikoli stopped pacing, looking down upon the snow now, absentmindedly. "I tried to drown out my childhood in theft and dirty underground work. 'Course this was all under the mad king's rule, so it was easy to have it all slip past official eyes. I tried to justify it all with the fact that I was using my earnings to help my family. It wasn't until I joined the war effort in Aster's army that I questioned forgiveness. They knew who I was, what I had done, and yet they couldn't give a damn. They weren't concerned with condemning the criminals, they only cared about fighting for a reality where the innocent were no longer oppressed, a reality that they had only dreamed of."
Nikoli turned to Alister now. "I doubt any of us will be able to redeem the hurtful things we might have done in the past, but that's why the present matters. You have to decide whether you want to live in the past or thrive in the future."
The day was more surprising than Alistar had thought it would be. Alistar listened to the wise mans tale. He couldn't believe it but finally he had met someone that could actually relate to him. It was tragic and sad to admit. Alistar's mouth was agape. "I didn't think, someone like you actually existed." Niko didn't seem like he needed comforted. Alistar had never heard anyone say anything that was so true. Niko could see that Alistar struggled with his past; his darkness and strife he had only recently pushed down yet still made his heart stir. "Instead of telling each other sad narratives from our pasts why don't we makes this night memorable some how?' Alistar suggested. "You said your name was Niko? mmm I think I'm going to call you Pops." Alistar Shrugged. "Yes that sounds reasonable." Alistar raised his brows. "you're old and wise so Pops suits you."
Post by Noa | Nikoli on Aug 23, 2018 20:41:33 GMT -6
Nikoli choked and almost started laughing. "Pops?!" he said. "I'm not that old, buddy, I was this close to reaching my 40's!" Nikoli put his index finger and thumb together to measure his words, all this being done jokingly. "Well if you're gonna go around throwing nicknames around like that, expect to get one back, Bonbons." He reached up and flicked on of the bunny ears on Alister's hood before pushing the hood down over the guys face. "Yeah, let's have some more fun, none of this melancholic shirt."
They entered the nearest inn, approaching the bar where the bartender met them. "Two cups of the strongest drink you got here for the bunny and I," he said, forking over several pieces of gold.
Alistars eyes widened when he heard the name bonbon.... He was triggered. FOR some weird reason he didn't know why he was being called such a nick name he looked nothing like a bonbon-HOW DARE HE! alistar whined- "thats lame its only cool when I do it and I think I should be called something more Sharp and masculine!" He demanded. Then Niko pushed his bunny hood over his head. "Hey--!!!"
Alistar had followed the man into the a tavern. geez more drinking.....Whatever he could go for a couple of rounds. He'd ditched Noa and her Crazy Brother. Alistar felt rather proud of himself. He was getting better and better at this friendship making thing. Perhaps the halfling boy wasn't as shallow as he thought himself to be. Alistar easily sat himself down in the tavern. He sighed. "what a night."

Nikoli's grin only widened with Alister's complaints. As they settled into their seats and got their drinks, he took a big swig of his before turning to Alister. "So tell me more about this girl you keep bringing up," Nikoli said.
Alistar ordered a drink and huffed a breath. Why was Niko asking questions about Noa. Alistar felt weird whenever he thought about her and whenever he spoke of her...to himself at least. Alistar to his own dismay spoke without thinking. "She Doesn't know how to take a compliment. I watched her beat up her brother infant of me shamelessly. Also she seems to follow me around a lot... She was fairly attractive when she was suffering and covered in spider ooze when we went on a mission in a forest filled with angry gnomes and spiders. I told her this and she didn't seem to like my flattery." Alistar shook his head. he began to lightly sip his beverage. "then there was this night at the honeymoon suite-...." Alistar paused as a bunch of things he had forgotten about came right back to haunt him. Alistar stalled in silence. he grabbed his drink and chugged it alll down. "HEY! tender I'm gonna need more rounds and get me your strongest stuff enough to make me forget who I even am." Alistar could never face her again.....

Nikoli watched as Alister went from distant to panicked in a matter of seconds. Geeze-- honeymoon suite?! But wait, the way Alister worded what he said... "You're a sadist," Nikoli concluded with surprise. Should he be surprised? "Sadist" seemed like a very fitting trait for a guy like him. "But hold on, you say honeymoon suite?" he pressed. Has Alister even dated before this? Or was this girl a crazy case?
