Dragon's Keep is a semi-lit/literate roleplay held on Discord.
It takes inspiration from fantasy and is influenced by mythology from around the world as well as our own minds.
Our current story takes place in Azielan, an eastern-influenced continent.
Characters in the roleplay are in a guild with the aim of protecting and helping others.
* Please note that this forum is only meant to be supplemental to the Discord server.
Main events and roleplay will still take place on the server. This is only here to help with further character interaction and development for those who may care for such a thing.
It can be quite a trial to have certain interactions on a server without them getting lost in the fray due to the time concerns. This forum was made as a way to work around that! 😊

Funeral of the Queen, Pai, and Aster
Alistar found himself wandering in place. He felt this numbness in himself he hadn’t felt in the longest time. What the hell? No no. While everyone was sad and mourning Alistar would be the one that wouldn’t break down. Or so he wanted to be that guy. Alistar stood behind a crowd of people. Trying to blend in as best he could and keep eyes off of him. He often went unnoticed most days it was very like him to go unnoticed it was a day like any other just happenstance made it more depressing — but he was above emotions. Emotions got in the way of everything. Alistar felt his chest tightening. For once... a tear trailed itself down alistars face. Oh god— his eyes began to flood with ghibli tears. “No.” He shakily said under his breath. His eyes were flooding and he found that he had bumped into someone. :eyes: oh no dont look at him cry the ghibli tears.

Those past few days had been absolutely dreadful. Basel found it hard to sleep seeing how he’d jolt awake at any sound. This in itself compromised his mood on top of the fact that he ha simply been rummaging through the rubble that used to be his home. Everything but the clothes on his back and the sword in his hand was what he had left. Even the armor Cyril gifted him had been dinged up by the rubble. Physical possessions paled in comparison to the heavy loss they all suffered, however. They didn’t deserve to die.
The anger and sorrow that filled his heart left little room for anything else. The whole service he had been lost within his thoughts. Whenever there was death it was inevitable some would begin to blame themselves and Basel was one of them. He felt that if he hadn’t even suggested they try to sneak around in the castle during King Asher’s banquet, then none of this would have happened. Sure, Fyr would have gone to war with Iledri, but perhaps the keepers would have stayed more of a neutral party. Instead, they were caught and the wrath of the king was placed upon the riders leading up to this point. If only he had been quicker to save his friends. If only…
While he had been rummaging through the remnants of the sleeping quarters he had found Pai’s bow. He teared up at the sight of it and decided to keep it, remembering how they first were able to sit down and hold a decent conversation with each other. One of which was about this particular bow, how his father helped customize it. He couldn’t even bring himself to think how he’d tell Pai’s father about his son’s death. Basel brought his hands up to his face, feeling the dampness on his cheeks, returning to the present. He lost a little brother and he wished he would have gotten to know Aster more as well but that could never be. Never.
One thing was for certain. The sight of Pai’s burnt body and Aster laying in a pool of blood would forever haunt him.
With a heavy sigh, Basel decided he would move along, sniffling slightly as he wiped his cheeks with his hands. Basel hadn’t been paying attention to where he was going, only wanting to walk somewhere, anywhere. It was then that he had been bumped into by a taller, more sturdy individual. Basel had to double take before he realized who it was.
“Alistar?” Immediate concern crossed Basel’s face as he reached out and set a hand on the man’s shoulder. He could see the beginnings of tears streaming down his cheek. This certainly was a difficult day on all of them. “Here, let’s go somewhere else.” He then silently lead them outside a little ways from others. Basel couldn’t mend the guilt and pain he was feeling right now, but he could attempt to do so for someone else.

Alistar did as Basel had said and followed him along. For the moment some of the pain ceased he was actually relieved to see someone he respected. This was a hard time for everyone wasn’t it ? He wiped the tear from his face.
When they were outside the air cleared just a little. Everyone was grieving some form of loss. “I haven’t seen you in a while.” Alistar said trying to gate into a happier topic.
“Everyone is having a moment of weakness now in this moment I suppose.” What could he say ? There was nothing he could say. He was desperately trying to block out feeling anything. ”There has to be a way to detach from this impending sadness. It’s going to get in the way and mess everything up for me.” He said flatly.
He looked at Basel. ”I can only hope the few companions I do have in the keep can push themselves through this. This wasn’t anyone’s fault. I just don’t understand things or people anymore. I thought I did but I don’t. Things just aren’t the same Basel.” Alistar's voice began to crack. This was embarrassing.
“Never have I ever felt this way before. I have never cried. This is ridiculous. I feel weak. I feel like a failure.” His voice was shaky as he tried with all his might to keep his anger and sadness from leaking out. Alistar had never felt so small before. Not like this. More tears started to run down his face. This was embarrassing.
“You are the last person I wanted to see me like this. I haven’t even seen myself like this before.” Alistar admitted.
“Basel you’re a good guy. The kind of man I wish I could be. Basel I know you must be feeling similar feelings on similar depths like me. This is dreadful truly. You don’t deserve to feel like this Because you’re a good person.” Oh gosh the ghibli tears were beautiful and sliding off of Alistars face they had the anime sparkle and yes sad shoujo music could be heard solemnly capturing the vibe. Alistar desperately wanted the Lemon pie blonde to slap these dreadful feelings of plot angst out of him.

As soon as they found themselves alone, he found himself a little surprised at how open Alistar became. His voice trembled as he spoke, hinting at how hard he was trying to hold back the tears. Instead of interjecting with a comment or two, Basel remained silent, listening to what the man had to say. Steadily one began to peek into a few of the underlying secrets Alistar fought so hard to mask. Basel, understanding how difficult it was to reveal any measure of vulnerability, could only watch the man’s progression of crumbling walls begin to fall, brick by brick.
Once Alistar had finished talking, crying a little more in an ashamed sort of manner, Basel couldn’t help but tear up himself. Without thinking, he simply put an arm around the halfling and sighed. Basel looked out at the crowds of people branching off into smaller groups to help comfort each other and finally spoke up.
“Things are not the same and they won’t ever be.” The harsh truth rung throughout his entire being. “Alas, that’s how change comes to be.” He fell silent for a moment, hanging his head before kicking a rock absently.
“There’s nothing wrong with crying either. These raw emotions you’re feeling right now can be used to build or to destroy. Hiding them doesn’t really help.” Basel offered his bro a bit of a pat to the back and a reassuring smile. “Being a good person doesn’t mean I won’t go through tough times either. These emotions are all about the process.” Basel heaved a bit of a sigh once more.
As much as Basel wanted to blame himself, what’s done is done. Like Alistar stated earlier, he couldn’t blame himself. It would certainly take him more time to not fall into the habit of doing so, but he appreciated the words nonetheless. “You don’t have to tell me, but what is it about people you don’t understand? Perhaps I can offer some insight?” Anything for his friend. He didn’t want time to take Alistar away too.
Alistar looked at Basel he'd normally be irked especially when someone tried to understand or sympathize with a guy like him. Alistar took a breath and regained reasonable thought despite the impending loneliness that was drawing near and staining his heart slowly. "I trusted someone and they've broken me. I trusted people and I'm always left in the dark. Im just tired Basel. I know that I dont want to be alone anymore though." Alistar said wiping his eyes. "I also got slapped by a girl...not too sure if I deserved it or not anymore if I'm being truthful about what transpired between us lately." Alistar let out a pained laugh. "Life's ironies seem to be sending me back and forth. I used to not like the idea of talking to people or engaging with anyone because of where I've been and what I've seen people can do. I had something good and now its lost and I dont know what to do and how to get it back. Its broken, I am broken." he said flatly.
Alistar began to walk. "Enough of this though. All I can say is thank you for being here now I really need a friend right now after I've turned my back on people who I thought were different." Alistar was internally asking his best friend for advice on how to clean up a mess he had made.

As always, in situations such as this, Basel simply listened and did his best to wrap his head around the situation his bro found himself in. Parts of it he could understand, other not to much. Seeing how Basel has always been more in-tune with social mannerisms not to mention highly outgoing, he couldn’t quite relate to not wanting to interact with people. However, with the mere allusion to the terrible things people were capable of, he nodded. Hearing that his friend got slapped by a girl as well caused him to look at the man a little curiously. What did he do to warrant such action?
Basel hummed in response to Alistar wanting to stop dwelling on these thoughts. His thanks were, of course, met with a warm smile, but golden boi knew it might be better to press the subject. After all, he wanted to really help seeing how he hasn’t said anything just yet.
“I’m glad I can be here for you.” He finally spoke up, finding a place to sit before patting the spot besides him as if to say ‘this might be a long talk’. Of course, Basel wouldn’t force Alistar to talk about anything if he didn’t want to, but he knew that he had to show that he was willing to go through potentially unpleasant topics. What better day to do that than on a rather sensitive day where one is normally pondering complicated questions about life and everything else.
“The ugly and beautiful part about people is how they always seem to defy your expectations. Sometimes it’s best to lay those expectations and assumptions aside to truly gather in who they are as an individual. Unfortunately, you will run into bad apples that you cannot get along with not matter how much you try, however, remember others are struggling with their own inner demons.”
“As far as being lonely, you always have me and you won’t get rid of me very easily either.” Basel teased with a bit of a smirk. “You say this girl slapped you, right? That has mean there are some pretty strong emotions going on there. Forgive me for asking, but were you two dating perchance?” Basel felt a little terrible for not fully knowing, but better late than never, right?
