Dragon's Keep is a semi-lit/literate roleplay held on Discord.
It takes inspiration from fantasy and is influenced by mythology from around the world as well as our own minds.
Our current story takes place in Azielan, an eastern-influenced continent.
Characters in the roleplay are in a guild with the aim of protecting and helping others.
* Please note that this forum is only meant to be supplemental to the Discord server.
Main events and roleplay will still take place on the server. This is only here to help with further character interaction and development for those who may care for such a thing.
It can be quite a trial to have certain interactions on a server without them getting lost in the fray due to the time concerns. This forum was made as a way to work around that! 😊
--/--/2019 ✨ The Azielan update is here! ✨ Like the new design? The forums recieved a big makeover! There is also a new "Roleplay" category featuring both Nysa and Azielan. Heck to the freaking yeah, baby! ▫ Azielan takes place in the present and is open to all generations. ▫ Nysa is currently reserved for events preceding the fifteen year time skip and accessible by first and second generations only!

Lehanna was none the wiser to her inquiry coming off as an insult, sadly. She only found the humor in it after the man mentioned laying off the sweets, snickering along soon after. She’d already begun to lift herself out of the water before her efforts were brought to a bit of a halt at the offer of assistance. At this point, it only made her feel even more ashamed, but she took his hand and and let him help her up. Of course, he made the whole thing seem effortless. For a moment, she had flashbacks from her childhood when she tried to help her old man with some things only to have him do most of the work… and it seemed even now, she still wasn’t strong enough.
“Thanks.” She stated softly, doing her best to dismiss the shame. At least now, Lehanna was sure he wasn’t a fair maiden anymore; perhaps, anyway. A small part of her undeniably still kept it in question.

Perhaps he was simply a very buff fair maiden. One never really knew~
Basel thought it to be an accomplishment in being able to make her laugh with his silly little comment. To him her laugh had a pleasantness to it that was most certainly contagious. And of course when he did finally help her up, she was light as a feather and he nearly used too much strength and tossed her to shore! If only, but he certainly made it look easy.
However, when she thanked him for his assistance, Basel noticed that she wasn’t her usual self. This was of course only observed during the short period of time having known her, so what did he know?
“So, now that we’ve had our bath, are you still fond on the idea of teaching me how to fish?” He offered up a crooked grin.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who’s the fairest of them all?
Basel Holbrook.
For a moment, Lehanna found herself drawn to the man’s smile; other than it obviously being just as becoming as the rest of him, she wasn’t quite sure why she found it so briefly captivating. One could suppose it was because he looked like the perfect combination of one of those fairytale princesses and prince charmings, which admittedly continued to befuddled her.
“Uh, yeah…” She answered, snapping out of her strange little daze. Lehanna made some effort in ridding herself of any excess mud on her hindquarters whilst she was in the deeper parts of the water before she made her way back over to the rock she’d been sitting on. She plunked herself down, repeating the process of ridding her feet of mud as well. Finally deeming herself ready to be hung out to dry, she then relaxed and let out a sigh.
“It shouldn’t take too long for me to grab everything.” She spoke up once more. “I can understand if you’d rather wait here instead of flying.” If the past was any indicator of how well the whole flying thing sat with the man, she was sure he’d prefer to do so anyway.

You got that right!
Watching her rid herself of mud made him more aware of his own messiness. When he looked down, it was worse than he thought and profusely blushed at how dirty he was. He let out a bit of a panicked ‘hn’ as he frantically tried to clean himself off. Once he felt he was clean enough, he finally emerged from the water and picked up his shoes and socks before situating himself on a rock as well.
“Oh, uh...” He nervously laughed when the woman mentioned how she could easily grab the supplies and the word ‘flying’. He definitely wasn’t ready for that again. Such a wimp! There truly was no hiding the fear that crossed his face at the thought of it. But maybe it could be less scary with someone there?
“Maybe I’ll have an easier time when I’m not riding on a dragon that’s trying to kill me?” He looked over at Maya. “For now, I’ll just stay here though.” For a moment he wanted to brave it, but the fear won. Another time will probably present itself, hopefully. Basel looked down guiltily and heaved a bit of a sigh.

Lehanna wiggled her toes, watching how they moved as the man answered. She was surprised that he sounded even remotely interested, even if he did turn it down in the end as expected. Maya made eye contact with him when he looked back at her, her demeanor growing slightly devious at the mention of her not trying to kill him. He put a lot of trust in her, considering they’d only just met… However, she spared him from her humor. He didn’t seem like a bad kid so far and knew better than to accidentally scare him, even if it was merely in jest.
“Actually, do you think you could hold two people, Maya?” Lehanna asked the dragoness shortly after, realizing she hadn’t fully considered the possibility. She’d offered, despite not even knowing if it was doable. Maya was rather petite for a Haewen and Lehanna had only ever experienced riding her on her own. The dragoness’ attention was then turned to the girl before she glanced back at the man, looking him over as if trying to assess him. Even if she could carry him as well, would she? She let out a small sigh that preceded her reply.
‘ I’m not sure. ’ “We could find out.” The dragoness looked hesitant at that statement. ‘ … I suppose we could. ’
Lehanna turned and looked back at her draconic companion, flashing her a bit of a grin that insisted upon the unworded plea. Cute, real cute. Reluctantly, Maya lifted herself from her spot in the grass. Lehanna had a point; there really was only one way to find out. The dragoness sauntered over to the two, kneeling before them to allow them to board soon after. Her eyes turned to the man soon after.
‘ I’ll only be assessing your weight on the ground. Don’t worry. ’

Suddenly, Basel felt as if he had come up with a rather inconvenient proposal of them riding together on Maya. He hadn’t really taken the petite Haewen’s size into consideration seeing how Cyril was large enough to probably carry several people at once. He was about to retract the idea when the young woman and Maya began discussing it. Soon after, the elegant dragon made her way over and kneeled, reassuring him that they wouldn’t be flying that day.
“My apologies on the inconvenience. Thank you for being willing to see if it could even remotely work.” He spoke up as he walked closer to Maya before carefully climbing onto her back after the girl. “I’d understand if I’m too heavy.” He chuckled a bit, referring to earlier.

‘ You needn’t apologize. ’ Though treated with the usual amount of scrutiny that was given by Maya, she did find the man’s mannerisms and speech rather soft and charming - when he wasn’t screaming, anyway - finding herself a little more inclined to afford him some trust. A little; every little bit counted when it came to a dragoness of her ilk, though.
With the two now on board, Maya then made some attempt to lift herself up and walk around…
‘ It seems… doable. ’ The man certainly added a good bit of weight, but it honestly wasn’t too overwhelming. Though Maya’s frame was rather slim and lithe for a dragon, she was still generally larger and likely stronger than the common steed. Most horses could afford to carry two people at a time at the expense of some speed, after all, so even though the gentleman had proven far too heavy for Lehanna, he’d have to try a little harder than that to weigh the dragoness down!
“You sure?” ‘ We won’t actually know for sure until we take to the air, but I do think I could manage it, should it be necessary. ’ “Great!” Lehanna answered. She turned her head and peeked back at the man from over a shoulder.
“So if you ever need a ride, we can help.” ‘ Probably. ’ Maya added as she knelt down once more, allowing the man to disembark. “Er, probably.” Lehanna followed her like an echo somewhat unsure of itself. She stayed seated, ready to take flight in a few short moments to retrieve those fishing supplies.

At hearing that Maya could indeed bear his weight, Basel felt a bit of relief wash over him. The man slipped off of the haewen, momentarily admiring how smooth her scales were compared to Cyril’s before responding.
“Perfect, thank you. I’m quite grateful for your willingness to even consider it a possibility, Maya.” He offered a warm smile, playing with a bit of wet hair as he did so. “I’ll just wait here then. See you soon.” Basel backed away, waving a bit awkwardly.

Maya nodded wordlessly in recognition, offering the man a more gentle stare than times previous before she and Lehanna took to the skies.
Thankfully, their residence along with everyone else's wasn't too dreadfully far from this lake, making the trip back a little less awkward. Lehanna certainly received a few off glances as she made her way to her room and retrieved things, still soaked from the lake water. They probably had questions that she didn't really care to answer. It was fine. Some measure of time later, the pair returned to the lake with fishing gear in tow. As Lehanna hopped off, she immediately began unloading all that was necessary, namely a modest looking fishing pole and just as modest looking of a tackle box of sorts. She walked over, flashing the man a strangely cute little smile before setting the tackle box down on a rock and opening it to have a look inside; it felt odd teaching someone how to do something versus Lehanna being taught to do something. Oddly pleasant, at that.
“First, you'll need to pick out some bait.” She mentioned, sitting down and assessing the fishing line in the meantime, undoing any knots that may have found themselves in it since she last checked. There were a number of baits, both artificial and well preserved through salt and other means - stowed away in there available for the man to choose from, varying from bits of meat, insects, bread balls and corn kept in small jars to intricately woven and crafted lures taking the shape of grasshoppers, moths and much more. There were many choices to be had! Lehanna figured she'd leave the decision making open to the screaming man; things were usually more fun to learn when given that sort of freedom, from her experience.

The sun felt extremely pleasant as he sat on a rock near the water’s edge, hair and clothing still sopping wet as the light breeze brought the temperature down to a mild warmth. Basel would have been able to fully enjoy himself if his mind hadn’t decided to torment him with his previous clumsiness. He even pulled the wild, green-eyed beauty down into the water with him! How embarrassing!
It wasn’t too long of a wait when she returned, gear in tow. This time, he did well not to be so startled and fall over. However, he might as well have been knocked over by that strangely cute little smile she flashed him as she approached with her fishing pole and tackle box. There was a moment his heart bounced in his chest and it was a phenomenon he had never experienced before. Was he dying?
“Oh, I see.” Basel moved in closer, crouching near the rock the tackle box had been set down on. Things certainly didn’t smell the best but that came within the territory of fishing, right? Completely natural! He hummed for a moment before picking out what seemed like a salted bait of some sort. He didn’t particularly want to know what it was and merely hoped that it would work for the types of fish in this lake.

Ah, yes, it seemed the man had chosen leeches for his bait today. Splendid! He seemed a little unsure of what he was actually holding, which was to be expected; preserved things never looked the most appealing, but hey, they worked well enough when a fresh variety couldn't be so easily found.
“All right.” Lehanna took the leech bait from him and placed it on the hook. She took care to make sure he was watching, should he wish to learn all about this. There was some technique to putting bait on a hook, actually, as Lehanna demonstrated hooking the leech bait through about three times over to better assure its attachment. She then proceeded to draw his attention to the weight and bobber placed on the line, explaining their purpose and how they were placed on there.
“Now…” She began as she stood up, fishing pole now ready for action. “For the fun part.”
Lehanna then cast out the line, her line breaking the still waters with a strangely satisfying plop sound. She conquered quite the distance with it too admittedly, thanks to some subtle help from a breeze passing through. However, she quickly began reeling the line in just as soon as she did so. She took the opportunity to demonstrate how the line was reeled in in that instance, which was pretty self explanatory, but still, it didn't hurt to touch on it. With the basics now safely out of the way, she then handed off the pole to man, who was easily becoming a new friend of hers at this rate.
“Your turn.” She insisted with another smile. One could swear this one was just a smidge more crooked than the one previous.

If only Basel had known it was a leech he was holding. He would have dropped the thing instantly! Either way, one couldn’t help but see the subtle hint of disgust at how the bait felt slightly squishy in his fingertips. If Cyril could see him now…
Seeing her impale the bait three times to ensure that it stayed on was also something that strangely made him squeamish. Of course, that wasn’t going to stop him from putting the bait on when he had the chance! No way in hell was he going to allow for something so simple defeat him that easily. That said, when she pointed out the important components to the fishing pole before effortlessly tossing the line in. He tried his best to pay attention to her form while doing so but, well, it all happened so quickly that he was sure he’d mess up many times before getting it.
Now it was his turn. He almost didn’t catch it but he thought he saw a hint of something playful behind her smile. “Ah, here’s goes nothing.” He took the line with determination and a clear resolve in at least trying to mimic some portion of her example. However, it all ended in the hook getting stuck on some rock and the bobber not even reaching the water. In short, he didn’t even remotely hit the mark in which he was aiming for.
“This is certainly more difficult than it looks!” He laughed at himself.

Watching the man take his turn with the fishing rod and try to cast out the line was very reminiscent of Lehanna’s first attempt; memories of being much smaller, holding a much smaller pole and casting her little heart out fleeted through her mind momentarily. She had her young sights and ambitions set upon a familiar pond before her, casting out the line with spirit - only to find her hook caught in a nearby tree. The line was horribly tangled; her old man had to try scaling the tree himself before resolving to cutting the line.
“You’ve got the power. Just need some direction in there and you’ll be set, La!”
She was so disheartened at the time, but now, it brought a smile to her face along with a chuckle. Her mind then returned to reality, her friend’s current predicament drawing some more laughter out into the open.
“It takes practice, like anything.” Lehanna answered simply, offering him a warm smile before making her way further down the line, all pun intended, grabbing it and fiddling with it. She pulled at it from different angles, hoping to pry it loose from the rock it had caught with as little effort as possible. Thankfully, it was freed with ease. She returned to the screaming bagel man, offering him assistance this time around.
“Here.” After he reeled in his line for another go, she stood behind him, walking him through the process again. Holding onto the pole along with him and doing her best to replicate her posture and method of swing, she then carefully led him through another small tutorial of sorts, resulting in a much better cast than before. It wasn’t great, of course, but it was certainly better; it made it to the water this time, at least!
“There you go!”

As she showed Basel first hand how to cast the line, coming up behind him and practically hugging him, he felt his heart nearly leap out of his chest. When he tried by himself, it was almost as if he had completely forgotten what his friend had shown him. Eventually, he was able to do the task at hand without looking like a complete fool. However, he had a long ways to go before he could come remotely close to the elegant cast that pecan pie had shown him.
At that point, a good measure of time was spent fishing and enjoying the quiet scenery. Wild child managed to catch a few trout while he caught an entirely different creature: a lost boot. When the grumbling of their stomachs revealed that it was time to quit, they packed up and went on their merry way.
One thing was for certain, Basel would never forget how simply pleasant this time had been. He definitely wouldn't protest to more moments with her.
